CES 2009: Arcam shows off the FMJ T32 Hi-Fi DAB tuner

arcam-fmj-t32-silver.jpgThis is the very pretty, but very expensive Arcam T32 Hi-Fi DAB tuner. As you'd expect from Arcam, it's a top-end bit of kit, with a top-end price tag to match. Although it's essentially just a radio, it also comes with a high-end iPod interface.

It's got a DAB tuner, with band III and L-band reception, it's DAB+ compatible, and there's also an AM/FM tuner onboard, too, if for some reason you decide that DAB is too nice-sounding. Lastly, the iPod interface is viewable from the front of the display, so you can scroll through artists and tracks on the LCD screen of the device.

It's yours for £500. That's not cheap, but this isn't a cheapy-made bit of kit. Full details are on the Arcam site.

Sony Ericsson announces 'affordable' C510 Cyber-shot, and W508 Walkman mobiles

sony-ericsson-c510.jpgI always get slightly confused by the way Sony doesn't group its gadgets by what they are, just by broad product ranges. As a result, there are cameras and phones with the Cyber-shot badge, and MP3 players and mobiles with the Walkman badge. From the product name alone, it's often impossible to tell what the device is.

Well, to clear up the confusion, both the products here are phones. The first is an 'affordable' 3.2 megapixel cameraphone, called the C510. Although there's a comparative lack of megapixels on the sensor compared to other cameraphones, it's got plenty of features to make up for it.

CES 2009: Sony reveals its 3" OLED-screened WALKMAN X music and media player

This beauty is the new Sony WALKMAN X range - featuring a 3" OLED touch screen to make videos look marginally better than they have ever looked before. Although they won't look very good when you've had your fingers all over the screen for six months.

The X1050 and X1060 both feature digital noise cancelling technology, FM tuners, the 3" 432x240 screen and come with 16 or 32GB of storage space. Here's a big photo of it, as it's rather pretty. That's not my music. That's someone else's music.

The WALKMAN X is even packed with a wi-fi chip and custom BBC iPlayer tool for watching telly wherever there's some wireless broadband to nick, plus it'll do YouTube and play MP4 videos, WMVs and H.264 material. Sony says you'll be able to have a WALKMAN X in "spring 2009" - and we think quite a few people will be taking it up on that offer.

There's more like this on our vast CES 2009 mega-page.

CES 2009: Samsung's other four digital cameras - the WB500, ST10, ST50 and ES55

As well as four tasty-looking compacts for the lady-blogger's handbag, Samsung has also revealed a chunkier wide-angle snapper for the man who wants to look like he's a proper photographer - plus some extremely odd novelties and a 10megapixel £79 job for kids and grandparents.

Samsung has been busy. Here are four more of its camera department's new designs in a big list, starting with the...

...the WB500, which is Samsung's first go at doing a mega-zoom camera. This model maxes-out at 10x - and features a wide-angle 24mm lens to battle Panasonic's extremely popular Lumix range. It has a 10megapixel sensor and can also record movies in HD spec.

Samsung UK has given the WB500 a tentative RRP of £229 and says it'll be out in the UK from January 2009. Which means soon...

CES 2009: Samsung brings Blu-ray to the sound bar with the HT-BD8200

Right, this is defintely the last time I'm writing the word Samsung today and that's only because the HT-BD8200 is the first and only sound bar to include a Blu-ray player. What is it with them and Blu-ray this year?

The 2.6" thick bar has a subwoofer and, guess what? Not only does it have USB ports and both Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity but it's also wall mountable too. Was this Samsung's idea for everything this year? Damn it, I wrote their name again.

CES 2009: Sony's new eco TV knows you're there

KDL-40VE5_Front_610x427.jpg
Do you like jigging your leg when you watch the TV? Then Sony have the perfect TV for you! Their new Eco Bravia line has a 40% reduction of power usage compared to standard models, through a number of environmentally happy features, the most bizarre of which is undoubtedly the Presence Sensor.

When the sensor fails to identify movement in the room, it will automatically witch itself off. How long does it wait? How sensitive is it? They're not telling, but for maximum amusement, I'm hoping the answer is two minutes and not very, respectively.

CES 2009: Sony Webbie camcorder rivals Flip Mino HD

webbie.jpg
The kids have got the money, and apparently, they like orange and purple. At least that's the impression you get from Sony's latest range of camcorders, dubbed the Webbies. Both models record in MPEG4 format, making uploading to the likes of YouTube a piece of cake, and they both record in HD.

The MHS-CM1 looks more like your traditional camcorder, and features 5x optical zoom, a 5 megapixel stills camera ad a 2.5-inch LCD screen. The MHS-PM1 (pictured) has a lens that swivels 270 degrees, 5 megapixel stills capture, and a Memory Stick slot.
