Mobile firm Hands On Mobile has signed a deal with 3H Group, to bring the latter's MeeGos avatars to mobile. They're the animated graphics that can be used within Windows Live Messenger IM conversations, and are used by over 24 million people (just under 9% of the total Messenger users).
What I want to know is how they'll be used in mobile. Hands On says it'll develop a "broad range" of MeeGos mobile products, encompassing "games, personalisation and lifestyle". Which hopefully means something more ambitious than just wallpapers and animated ringtones.
Does anyone feel that attached to an animated graphic they use in Messenger, to pay for it a second time on their phone? We'll have to wait and see. Hands On certainly has no doubts.
"MeeGos are a perfect fit for ourselves and the mobile medium for so many reasons," says Hands On CEO Jonathan Sacks. "They are highly customisable, they have a huge appeal to a broad range of mobile entertainment consumers, and they will form an integral part of the exciting new projects that we are working on that involve areas as diverse as community, instant messaging, sponsorship and advertising."
