Web 2.0 news: LinkedIn, Technorati tags, Yahoo acquires MyBlogLog

LinkedInLinkedIn is a social network that is supposed to bring you closer to the sort of people that can progress your career, social standing, prospects, and general life, but which has come under significant fire for (in layman's terms) being a waste of time. Akkam's Razor writes on how to get the most out of LinkedIn.

Mashable reports that Technorati tags are 2 years old today, and in celebrating Technorati have updated their tags pages, which now include not only links to text on blogs, but visual media and audio: "The tabs, meanwhile, let you dig deeper into blog posts, photos, videos, podcasts, music and people (ie. Technorati profiles). Most of these pages are obviously ruled by one brand - YouTube in the video section, Flickr for photos, Odeo for podcasts and Last.fm for music. Related tags, meanwhile, let you jump to similar terms."

Mashable also reports that Yahoo! has acquired MyBlogLog for $10m, but write: "I’m yet to be convinced by MyBlogLog, although it certainly has potential. The issue right now is that it hasn’t really moved beyond the tech crowd (they’re also making inroads into real estate blogs they say), and while you can currently post these widgets to MySpace, it remains to be seen whether they can master that market, which is radically different to serving geeky bloggers."
